SCOTT BORCHETTA TAKES AMERICAN IDOL TO NASCAR
FOX’s hit show American Idol is experiencing strong ratings in its 14th season with Big Machine Label Group President/CEO Scott Borchetta in the driver’s seat as the show’s new in-house Mentor. Borchetta, who has been working with the Idol contestants since November of last year, is prominently featured on the show each week where he advises this season’s crop of eclectic and edgy young singers on song selection, stage presence and fan engagement. In an effort to show contestants the pressures of performing the National Anthem in front of thousands of fans, Borchetta arranged for Idol’s Top 11 remaining contestants to perform the song at the Auto Club 400 NASCAR race this past weekend in Fontana, CA. The contestants delivered a powerful performance on the track before serving as grand marshals for the race with Borchetta. Footage from the race will appear on this week’s show. A longtime racing fan, Borchetta can often be spotted at tracks all over the nation on weekends taking in a Nascar, IndyCar or Formula One race. For the 2015 racing season, Big Machine Records is a sponsor of the the Chip Ganassi Racing Team. Borchetta is a longtime believer that racing and music are very synonymous, telling Forbes magazine, “There are a lot of parallels, there really are. As far as the talent, as far as strategy … part of it is, ‘Get me that lane nobody else is racing in and we’ll find a way to win it.’”
