CARRINGTON MACDUFFIE SET FOR GREATNESS
Americana singer-songwriter Carrington MacDuffie released her latest EP CRUSH ON YOU, on February 12, 2016 on MacDuffie’s Pointy Head Records. CRUSH ON YOU is a follow-up to her 2014 EP ONLY AN ANGEL. The new EP is a collection of five original songs, which possess a wistfulness and independent spirit of love and longing that MacDuffie herself refers to as “electronic folk.”
MacDuffie has merged her Americana folk singer-songwriter sound with an ‘80s rock twist for an eclectic, retro sound. The tracks range from the powerful title track “Crush on You,” to the meditative “I Call You” with its steadily rolling drums, to the sweet melody of the ballad “Precious Kisses,” the dynamic lullaby “Sweet Pea,” and is rounded out by an ode to the musician’s instrument, “My Little Guitar”. There is a playfulness and sensitivity to CRUSH ON YOU. The songs are both catchy and deep. Her vocal clarity, expressive range, and her creative use of lyrics ensure her unique voice will be heard in not only the Americana singer-songwriter scene, but in other genres as well. CRUSH ON YOU was produced by Rob Halverson, who has produced and performed with an impressive roster of legendary performers, including GRAMMY winners Jimmy Cliff, Floyd Domino, and Lloyd Maines. His Austin-based studio, Halversonics Recording, has played host to an equally impressive list of award-winning artists, such as GRAMMY winners James Fenner and Adrian Quesada. Halverson plays synthesizers, bass, piano, vibes, percussion, and guitar on CRUSH ON YOU. “Carrington writes thoughtful, smart, fun and eccentric songs reflecting her views of the journeys we are all on,” shares Halverson of his experience working with MacDuffie. “It is a delight to hear her ideas come to life!” Rob was joined by renowned drummer/percussionist Dony Wynn, who is widely appreciated for his work with Robert Palmer, Dr. John, Patti LaBelle, Brooks and Dunn, and Robert Plant. Paul Klemperer steps in on baritone sax, while Carrington croons, speaks, and belts out her vocals, along with playing acoustic and electric ukuleles and piano on the EP. CRUSH ON YOU was mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk at Stereophonic Mastering in Portland, Oregon. MacDuffie is best known as a voice-over artist and narrator. She has voiced a wide range of characters and dialects, including the part of a shamanic Scottish dwarf in World of Warcraft, and the campy private eye in the audio comic Honey West. Her voice can also be heard narrating various documentaries, and on national commercials such as Ancestry.com and Canon cameras. She has narrated over 200 audiobooks, has won numerous AudioFile‘Earphones’ Awards, and has been a finalist six times for the Audie Award. Additionally, she has published a book of her own poetry, On the Dreaming Earth, and an audiobook of spoken word and sound, Many Things Invisible— all the while serving as poetry editor for the literary journal Square Lake. CRUSH ON YOU is further evidence of MacDuffie’s undying love of verse and song. Her lifelong interest in poetry and success in performing the spoken word have given rise to an artist with a terrific ability to communicate her emotions and perceptions through her own music.
