Randy Jackson exits American Idol and Scott Borchetta, President and CEO of Big Machine, home of Rascal Flatts, The Band Perry, Florida Georgia Line, Tim McGraw and is the man credited for discovering Taylor Swift and signing her at age 14, is taking his expertise to the show in January as the new mentor to the contestants. “There’s only one reason I’m doing this: American Idol has proven again and again that it can launch superstars. I believe that working with these young artists the same way we work with new artists at the Big Machine Label Group will help the next American Idol be as prepared as possible to continue the tradition of creating new superstars,” said Borchetta. “The entire label group will be invested, and we look forward to bringing our energy, focus and know-how to help develop this young talent at the highest levels.”So, good bye Dawg, Hello Nashville.

I have all the respect in the world for Scott Borchetta and Big Machine. This is a very smart move by the producers of American Idol. Personally, I like American Idol and I think the trio of JLo, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., is good TV, as they say. Now with Scott Borchetta in the mix, I think they have hit on a winning combination. I look forward to watching the show.

It was way past time to put The Dawg in the pound. Sorry Randy, but time to move over and out and bring a current industry heavy weight like Scott Borchetta on board. Jennifer Lopez is current, Keith Urban is definitely current and Harry Connick, Jr. is just plain fun to watch. Now get some good looking kids with talent and AI is hot again.

It is about time American Idol woke up and brought more Nashville into the mix. Their biggest success stories have been Country artists. Carrie, Scotty , Kelly — and Keith may be from down under, but he lives in Nashville and we call him one of our own. With Scott Borchetta grooming these hopefuls, I will be watching in January.
